EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS & RESPONSE

South Carolina’s Centers for Independent Living (CIL) work to make emergency and disaster planning inclusive for people with disabilities. We focus on removing barriers so everyone can prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies safely.

People with disabilities are often affected more during disasters because of planning gaps, lack of access, or inaccessible services. We work to address the access and functional needs of people who may need extra support, accommodations, or modifications to stay safe in an emergency; this includes people with disabilities, older adults, and others who face higher risk when emergency planning and response are not inclusive.

Your SC CILs believe community preparedness must work for everyone: That means accessible planning, clear communication, inclusive evacuation and sheltering, and full support through recovery.

The resources below provide information and tools to help disabled individuals, families, and communities prepare for and respond to emergencies.
